Davidson Day shoots past Greenfield School to win NCISAA 2A title

Greenfield School made only 7 of its 20 free throw attempts in the state championship game.

Davidson Day School defeated Greenfield School in the final N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 2024 boys basketball state championship.

The Patriots won the 2A state championship game by a score of 74-64. The game was played at Ravenscroft School in Raleigh.

Davidson Day came out hot and made four 3-pointers in the first quarter. The Patriots finished with nine in the game.

Greenfield's standout sophomore Kobe Edwards helped Greenfield keep pace early with an 8-point first quarter outing. Edwards finished with 17 points. Senior Matt Kirby had a game-high 23 points and was never held scoreless in a quarter.

While outmatched, Greenfield School never managed to get itself too far behind Davidson.

The first half ended with the Patriots leading 37-29.

Davidson Day opened up to a large lead of 14 points in the second, but Greenfield eventually lowered it to a margin of just four points.

Junior forward Levon Jacobs was huge for Davidson Day in the second half, scoring 13 points after the break. He, along with junior Isaiah Denis, led the Patriots in scoring on the night at 18 points each.

The Patriots had a significant length advantage over the Knights and were able hit contested shots in big moments. 6-foot-10 sophomore Will Stevens proved to be a matchup problem with his skills on the perimeter. Stevens hit two threes and finished the game with 13 points.

A big difference in the game came from at the charity stripe.

Davidson Day made nine of its 14 free throw attempts, while Greenfield School missed 13 of its 20 opportunities.

Greenfield School wrapped up the season with a 31-7 overall record. Davidson Day's championship campaign ended with a mark of 24-7.
