Final HSOT boys basketball rankings: Weddington and The Burlington School take top honors

The Burlington School and Weddington were the top two teams in this year's final HighSchoolOT boys basketball rankings.

The Weddington Warriors played against the Panther Creek Catamounts in the 4A boys championship game at the Smith Center in Chapel Hill on Saturday, Mar. 12, 2022. Weddington won the game 76-58 to secure their second consecutive state championship.

The Burlington School and Weddington were the top two teams in this year's final HighSchoolOT boys basketball rankings. The Burlington School won the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 2A title, while Weddington claimed the N.C. High School Athletic Association title.

It's Weddington's second straight No. 1 ranking in the West. The Warriors were the No. 1 team last year after winning the NCHSAA 3A title. Last year's East No. 1, Farmville Central, took eighth this year.

Final East Top 25 rankings

The Spartans only lost to two other teams who were eligible to be ranked — Chambers and Carmel Christian. The team they defeated for the title, Trinity Academy of Raleigh, took second.

Panther Creek, the NCHSAA 4A runner-up, stormed its way into third, while 3A runner-up Seventy-First was fourth and Cleveland, the 4A East regional runner-up, rounded out the top five.

Farmville Central, the 2A runner-up, was eighth and 1A runner-up Chatham Charter was 15th.

Final West Top 25 Rankings

The Warriors' perfect 31-0 was more than enough reason to rank them first. Chambers, which only fell to Weddington by two points in the fourth round, was third while North Mecklenburg, which fell to Weddington by three points in the NCHSAA 4A West regional final, was fourth.

West Charlotte, which finished third in the Queen City Athletic Conference behind Chambers and North Meck, won the NCHSAA 3A title and is ranked fifth.

NCISAA 4A champ Carmel Christian is second, while runner-up Greensboro Day is sixth.

NCHSAA 2A champ Jay M. Robinson is eighth, and undefeated 1A champ Hayesville was ninth.
