Party like it's — 1984?

Don't worry, it's not Orwellian, just basketball.

Forsyth Country Day has its first N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association championship in boys basketball in 40 years after it defeated Gaston Christian 57-44 on Saturday in the 3A title hosted by Ravenscroft.

Forsyth Country Day led 25-24 at halftime but trailed 37-36 going into the fourth. But the Furies were used to close games, having won by six in the quarterfinals and three in the semis.

Jahon Foster had 20 points to lead the Forsyth Country Day (27-6), coming up big down the stretch to run by Gaston Christian.

The Eagles (19-16) made it to the title in coach Chris Duhon's first season. Gaston Christian was the 4-seed in the 3A bracket but knocked off 1-seed High Point Christian in the semifinals by a 63-61 score.
