A 73-year-old man died after he was hit by a car when he walked into the road on South Eastern Boulevard in Fayetteville.

Police said James Alton Walton, 73, of Washington, D.C., was wearing dark clothes around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday when he was struck by a 2016 Nissan Sentra. He was walking in the southbound lanes when the driver hit him.

Walton was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he died the next day from his injuries.

It is unclear if the driver will be charged.
