Marbles Kids Museum has reopened its On the Farm exhibit, allowing children to experience the life of a farmer and the importance of farm-to-table food through hands-on play.

The museum has partnered with the N.C. State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the N.C. Soybean Producers Association to create new additions for children of all ages.

The re-imagined exhibit includes a functioning conveyor belt and crop-counting technology. Children can also milk a cow, plant crops and ship food to grocery stores.

The exhibit is on the first floor of the museum in the Around Town gallery, a bustling community with a weather station, a veterinarian, emergency vehicles, a grocery store and more for pretend play.

“Play in On the Farm enables kids to learn about modern agriculture, careers in farming and where our food comes from. As they collaborate to harvest crops and transport them to the grocery store, kids immerse themselves in a key industry in North Carolina,” says Hardin Engelhardt, chief learning officer for Marbles.

The updates to the exhibit come after 10 years of farm play.

Marbles, located at 201 E Hargett St., is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Thursdays until 7 p.m. Members can enter early at 9 a.m. All visitors are required to reserve tickets in advance online.
